NATIONAL DIALOGUE ON HEALING RACISM TO CONVENE OCTOBER 21, 2020 AT 4PM PST

August 2020, the distinguished L-Fund organization hosted a series of conversations for African American activists and community members on responding to racism in America called, "Courageous Conversations on Racism."  Led by Meisha Thrasher, master facilitator and co-founder of WOCT Tribal, eight courageous souls confronted the most painful and ugliest racism experiences of their lives.  Participants describe the event as, "highly transformational," "pivotal," and "life changing."  Each conversationalist honed new skills and tools to combat the age-old, global issue of racism.

On October 21, 2020, WOCT Tribal and the I-Teach Love Institute will collaborate to host a, "National Dialogue on Healing Racism," to share lessons, wisdom and tools learned during the sessions.  Participants believe understanding the short and long term effects of ongoing encounters with racism and how to effectively respond, will be extremely valuable to others.

"The opportunity to lead this session was not only healing but inspirational.  Some of the participants of the Courageous Conversations have been activists for decades.  It was an honor and a gift to help them strengthen their resolve and heal the wounds that doing this work can cause," Says Meisha Thrasher, Facilitator and Curator of the event.

Longtime activist, educator and internationally celebrated public speaker, Love Ta'Shia Asanti, also spoke to the rich wisdom and healing potential of the sessions.  "When you're on the frontlines for years, you can really suffer a lot of damage.  It's not just fighting racism, its battling the institutional systems that keep racism thriving.  Activists have to make sure we aren't using outdated tools to combat discrimination.  Courageous Conversations is an exchange of love, ideas and tools to help both activists and the community-at-large heal and cope."

Courageous Conversations: National Dialogue on Healing Racism will be held Weds, October 21, 2020 at 4pm PST via Zoom Video Conference.  The event is free and open to any person who supports the objectives of the event.

The objective of the Courageous Conversations National Dialogue on Healing Racism is to:

-Share wisdom, tools and lessons learned during the inaugural gatherings and to promote the creation of safe space to process the effects of experiences with racism in America.

-Create opportunities for community investment in projects that counter the effects of racism and support open dialogues that promote tolerance and healing.

-Provide resources, education and information to victims and survivors of racism and support to families, allies and the communities who support them.

In 2021, collaborators will also host a series of Master Classes featuring leaders in Social Justice and Racial Equality.
